writer, publisher and consumer advocate, and the founder of the
Frommer's series of travel guides and Arthur Frommer's Budget
Travel magazine. He has published many books for
budget-conscious travelers and has been one of America's
foremost budget travel authorities since the 1950s. Frommer's
seminal book, Europe on 5 Dollars a Day, changed the way
Americans traveled, and foreshadowed such later budget-conscious
guidebooks as Lonely Planet and Rick Steves.

Andrew
McCarthy received travel writing’s highest
honor in the fall of 2010— the Lowell Thomas
Award for Travel Journalist of the Year.
He’s a Contributing Editor at National
Geographic Traveler, writes regularly to
Travel + Leisure, The Atlantic, and The Wall
Street Journal and has written for Slate,
Bon Appetit, Men’s Journal, The Huffington
Post, and Afar, to name a few. He is the
co-editor of the anthology, “Lights,
Camera…Travel” published by Lonely Planet in
October 2011 and his travel memoir, “The
Longest Way Home,” will be published by Free
Press in the fall of 2012.
Despite all this, he is probably better
known as an actor, having appeared in more
than two-dozen films, including The Joy Luck
Club, Mulholland Falls, and The Spiderwick
Chronicles, as well as such iconic movies as
Pretty in Pink, St, Elmo’s Fire, Less than
Zero, and cult favorites, Weekend at
Bernie’s and Mannequin.
He’s starred on Broadway and appeared on
numerous television shows, including
Lipstick Jungle, Royal Pains, and Law &
Order. He also directs for television --
Gossip Girl and White Collar, among others.
He lives in New York with his wife and two
children.
